China’s rapidly growing economy, vast population and business infrastructure offers tremendous China business development opportunities to Malaysian individual/businessman/companies. Whether it is setting up operations in China, or tapping into China’s Market potential, many companies today are experiencing great business success. For the past 10 years, Malaysian slowly realizing the potential that China are opening. However in a slow pace, we started to venture into China and learning bit by bit about the situations there. For example, there are some Malaysian merchant that export raw virgin coconut oil for cosmetic manufacturer and had already made millions in profits. This is the kind of opportunities that we can take advantages of.
Another example if we have a look at what American company are doing in China despite of their government being condemning China on many aspect. There are growth of exports to China is not just coming from large USA firms, such as Motorola, GE, DuPont, United Technologies, etc.  Small and mid-size companies are prospering by exporting to China.  The number of small and mid-size exporters to China has grown from 3,100 in 1992 to over 20,000 companies in a wide range of market segments.

On the other hand, importing products from China doesn’t mean that it is under quality or perishable. If you have the chance to look at the products that the manufacturers in China had produced, you can see that they are so many variances in the quality of products there. From the lowest quality to the high end quality that are been sought after by so many well known brand in the world.

However, to be successful, Malaysian must create a very good networking within Malaysian business community and also bridging it with the counterparts in China.




Manufacturing in China – Enormous Potential to be Globally Competitive!
China continues to be the world’s destination for foreign investment.   For Malaysian businessman and companies, taking advantage of China’s competitive labor market, investment incentives, and expanding local markets can be dramatic – especially with uncertain local market conditions.  Significant improvements in bottom line profitability as well as return on investment are both realistic opportunities. Perhaps the most important reason for establishing a Chinese manufacturing presence is to be close to customers who are already located in China and easily access to Malaysian consumers. Malaysian businessman had been importing goods from China for more than 50 years now. Not many people realized the potential that China had open for us. Actually, if Malaysia takes this advantage to another level, we can save more in creating our own good that is identical to what China manufacturers are also producing. Millions of money can be saved if we change our industry towards a more service industry rather than have to compete with the so many Chinese manufacturers. What we have seen is, Malaysian being the hub for distribution for these products. Here we just repacking it and redistribute into the markets. Then we can be concentrating more in the Malaysian indigenous products such as Batik, Craftsmanship etc. We don’t have to compete against them to be better.

Before China’s entry into the WTO, China prevented USA companies from distributing their imported products or providing local repair/maintenance services inside China.  Now, China allows USA firms to support both locally manufactured and imported products within China.   This provides flexibility on how to provide logistic support to customers located in China, such as:

  • Foreign Invested Commercial Enterprise (FICE)
  • Wholly Owned Foreign Enterprise (WOFE)

We can learn how the Chinese sustained their economic even in the middle of the world economic downturn in the 90’. What they had is the power to create a local economic boundary. Even if the world is at crisis, the goods and products are still consumable by their own citizen. They have a strong based of consumers and they also have the power to purchase. Even if in a single province like Zhejiang or Guangdong, the markets are flowing in a cyclical formation. Once the markets are open to the World, we can see the drastic increase in the economics of scale in China. They didn't depend on the world market, but when they market is open; they already had the advantage to supply all of their goods to the consumers. There are so many area that we can look at in the China economics’ situation. We can do research on how they sustained their market, economy and so on.
